Jenny’s Smile Refresh
I first met Jenny during an emergency appointment for a cracked tooth – a story you may have already seen on my cracked teeth page
During subsequent visits, we started discussing a different concern that had been bothering her for several years. More than 20 years earlier, Jenny had received veneers and a bridge to improve her smile. While she had been very happy with the work initially, time had inevitably taken its toll.
As her gums gradually receded, the margins of the restorations became increasingly visible. Some restorations had chipped and been repaired over the years, and Jenny found herself becoming more and more aware of them whenever she looked in the mirror or saw photographs of herself.
For someone who had always loved smiling, this was becoming increasingly frustrating.
Understanding the Challenge
Replacing restorations that have been in place for more than two decades requires careful planning.
Jenny’s existing veneers and bridge had served her well for many years, but visible margins, previous repairs, chipping and changes in the gum line meant they no longer provided the natural appearance she wanted.

Why We Took a Phased Approach
Initially, Jenny only wanted to replace the veneers.
Although the bridge was also showing signs of age, she felt comfortable postponing its replacement until the following year and preferred to spread treatment over time.
We therefore focused on the veneers first, replacing the restorations on the front teeth and left-hand side and creating a fresher, more natural appearance.
The improvement was immediate.
Once Jenny saw the result, she realised just how much the remaining bridge stood out by comparison. What had once blended reasonably well suddenly looked noticeably different next to the new restorations.
Rather than waiting another year, Jenny decided to immediately proceed with replacement of the bridge as well.
The Result
After replacing the veneers and bridge and completing tooth whitening to harmonise the overall shade, Jenny’s smile was transformed.
The new restorations restored a natural, youthful appearance while maintaining the character of her smile. Most importantly, they allowed her to stop worrying about ageing dental work and start enjoying her smile again.
The final result feels fresh, balanced and completely in keeping with her features.
