Benita’s Choice for Natural Confidence
Benita had been living in Berlin for many years and was delighted to find a German dentist when she booked her consultation with me.
Although she disliked several aspects of her smile, including the colour of her teeth, the black triangles and the overall alignment, one tooth in particular bothered her most. She felt her lower right incisor protruded noticeably and drew her attention whenever she smiled.

Smile Makeover Without Braces?
Our initial plan followed the traditional route: Invisalign to create ideal alignment before carrying out any cosmetic treatment.
However, after reviewing several of my composite bonding cases, Benita asked an important question:
“Can we achieve this without braces?”
The answer was yes – but not without compromise.
From a clinical perspective, aligning the teeth first would have created the most conservative and predictable foundation for treatment. Orthodontics would have allowed us to improve tooth position before refining shape and proportions, ultimately giving us greater flexibility when designing the final smile.
Choosing composite bonding alone meant we had to work with the existing tooth positions. Creating the appearance of straighter teeth would require careful reshaping, particularly of the lower front teeth, while maintaining natural-looking proportions and avoiding an over-treated result.
This case became an exercise in balancing ideal treatment planning with Benita’s personal preferences. By discussing the advantages, limitations and potential compromises openly from the outset, we were able to create a treatment plan that aligned with both her goals and expectations.
The Journey
Before beginning the restorative phase, we completed tooth whitening to create a brighter foundation for the final result.
Composite bonding was then carried out over two appointments, allowing us to carefully refine the shape, proportions and overall balance of both the upper and lower front teeth.
Cases like Benita’s require meticulous planning. The goal is not simply to add composite, but to create the illusion of improved alignment while maintaining natural tooth proportions and a believable result.

The Result
Following whitening and upper and lower anterior composite bonding, Benita achieved the brighter, more balanced smile she had hoped for.
The lower front teeth appear significantly straighter, the black triangles were improved and the overall smile now feels more harmonious and youthful.
Most importantly, the result reflects Benita’s priorities and treatment preferences while respecting the limitations we discussed from the outset.
